LEAF SCORPIONFISH
Perhaps my proudest shot because you can never shoot them head-on and I don't think I've ever seen this angle before.
PYGMY SEAHORSE
Traditionally one of the tougher shots to get, let alone to see their face. They're very shy and usually turn away from any light source, like high-power strobes. Took me about five minutes to get this angle.
SHRIMP GOBY (head-on)
This guy guards the burrow of a blind shrimp, signals when danger approaches, and they both retreat inside the burrow. I'm not sure why, but he was willing to have a stare-down with me and I crept closer with the camera.
UNDESCRIBED NUDIBRANCH
Probably the most gorgeous one we saw (and that's saying something). Humann/Deloach (p368) call it "undescribed" (not uncommon for nudis) but tag it as in Janolus family.
LONGHORN COWFISH (juvy)
I love the challenge of shooting any fish head-on (means there's some level of trust or curiosity going on if they don't turn or flee) and this little guy was certainly willing to test my mettle as I shot.
